I feel that drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, and doing drugs all are huge factors and hazards for an infant’s development during pregnancy and after. Alcohol during pregnancy, I believe is one of the most importation and biggest hazard to a fetus. Drinking can put the mother and fetus at risk for several deferent reasons. For example small body size and weight, miscarriages, still births (About. Com 2013). When a women Is drinking on a regular basis It limits her dietary Intake that she and the fetus need to grow.

Drinking during pregnancy can also have an effect on the fetus development. The alcohol interferes with his ability to get enough oxygen and nourishment for normal cell development in the brain and other body organs. This can cause the most damage during the women’s first trimester, when the body structures and organs are forming, such as the heart, brain and nervous system. Another hazard during pregnancy, I believe that has an effect on the fetus Is smoking cigarettes.

Smoking along with drinking alcohol crosses the placental barrier and Interferes with fetal development. While smoking can cause problems with the placenta, which is the only was your fetus can get food and oxygen. Smoking Just like Drinking can put the fetus at risk for several reasons. For example Low-birth weight, birth defects, premature birth (CDC 013). “Smoking during and after pregnancy is a risk factor of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (KIDS). KIDS Is an Infant death for which a cause of the death cannot be found (CDC, 2013, 3rd paragraph. ” The last hazard that I believe should be talked more to women who are pregnant or wish to become pregnant are drugs. This ranges from prescription and nonprescription, to pesticides, fertilizer and street drugs. Here is a list of Just some of the drugs: Cannabis (marijuana) Speed (amphetamines) and crystal meet (methamphetamine) Ecstasy Cocaine and crack cocaine ever malformation while others can lead to fetal death, premature birth, or lifelong behavior and learning disabilities.

Women should check with their health care provider before taking any prescription or nonprescription drugs to determine if it will be harmful for the infant. Drinking, smoking, and doing drugs are things that no person should do if they want to be at their healthiest, but the risks are so much higher when it’s in regards to a developing fetus. No parent wants any harm to come to their child, so why would they want to be the cause of the harm?
