Statistics start with people, particularly when they relate directly to the audience (Suffer & Lowly, 2013). Statistics within the Department of Veteran Affairs Is very Important we are servicing and production costs; this in my opinion, is vital to the success of the organization. The Administrative Officer will conduct briefings and presentations to staff and upper management in regards to productivity, compliance and current Job positions that the unit need to fill (Battering, 2014).

All three individuals that I interviewed agree that, “you must plan your presentation so that it focuses on audience benefits” (Suffer & Lowly, 2013). Telephone communications also another large aspect of managing a healthcare organization. “Despite the heavy reliance on e-mail, the telephone is still an extremely important piece of equipment in offices” (Suffer & Lowly, 2013). It does not matter whether you are in and out of the office. You can always be reached by phone (Suffer & Lowly, 2013).

The management staff of HAS communicate via telephone a lot throughout their busy days. They communicate with their bosses, hospital administration, other services in the hospital, staff supervisors, staff employees etc. Each member of the Management team is assigned a government issued Blackberry cellular phone so they are more productive, efficient and professional (Solver, 2014). The consensus during the interview with all three individuals is that they spend at least a quarter of their time communicating via telephone.

Communication via telephone is a good thing because at times email can seem impersonal; if an employee has an issue or concern, it’s nice to speak to them first hand rather than via email. I think it gives employees reassurance that as the Chief of HAS, you are human, accessible, and personable and there for your employees; you’re not too busy to communicate with them. Email communication is large part of management’s day to day process. “Email has replaced paper memos for many messages inside organizations and some letters to external audiences” (Suffer ; Lowly, 2013).

The Chief, Assistant Chief and the Administrative officer use email for much of their day to day interactions when they cannot reach staff, customers and administrators face to face (Solver, 2014). The HAS staff use email to communicate ideas, answer questions, deal with staffing and employee issues within the HAS department, check time and attendance, send out reminders to supervisors, and to communicate new information to staff and supervisors to name a few. All of these daily functions are important because it allows for a smoother daily work process.

Email is very efficient and allows the Chief and the Assistant chief to quickly communicate all of their ideas, important information, changes to protocol and any other pertinent information that needs to e delivered to the staff; this increases productivity in the organization, allowing time for other tasks. “Organizations continue to make huge investments to build virtual information and communication technology platforms to facilitate employee communication and, consequently, enhance employees’ Job performance” (Jungian ; Venerates, 2013).

When information needs to travel through many intermediaries, the integrity of the message will be reduced, because the more nodes in the network a message needs to pass through before it reaches the target, the more noise and interference to which it will be exposed and, consequently, the more he message will be different from the original message. When an employee requests knowledge to resolve work problems, the integrity/accuracy of the knowledge is important. If the knowledge is distorted during the transfer, it may no job performance (Suffer ; Lowly, 2013). The Department of Veteran Affairs uses social media and video conferencing to reach its employees, customers and peers” (Battering, 2014). The Department of veteran Affairs has a Backbone page in which you can post pertinent information to your employees like weather updates, road closures near the facility, facility closures etc. Hospital administrator’s also post negative and positive feedback from customers and they offer solutions to fixing the problems to not only the employed but to the customers that are also affected. Video teleconference is also used a lot in the facility.

The (HAS) has six community based clinics (Solver, 2014) in the local area that are included in the day to day of the HAS at the Veterans Administration. Many of those facilities can’t get to the main facility for monthly staff meetings so video teleconference is used to bring them into the meetings while they are being conducted. Recommendations for training for this position can wither be accomplished by a special internship programs that allows for employees that are interested in becoming top moment to train for leadership or candidates must have one full year of specialized experience in the related field.

The special training program that is offered only from the acting Chief of (HAS), is an internship that is based off of a selection process (Solver, 2014). If you are the candidate selected to participate in this internship, you will begin a two year program in which you will work with the Chief of HAS and the Assistant Chief of HAS, and had them in their daily endeavors. The candidate must be willing to relocate after the two year internship is over (Solver, 2014). Once they relocate, they will assume the position of Assistant Chief of HAS in the location that is available.

You are eligible for hire Chief of HAS after at least 52 weeks of service at the level of Assistant Chief when position is available. In order to fill the position as Chief of HAS, you must be equipped with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position of Chief of HAS, Assistant Chief of HAS, r Administrative Officer that is typically in or closely related to the work of the position. Education such as at least a Bachelor’s degree in Health Administration or a closely related field is also required for this position of Chief of HAS but not as Assistant Chief of HAS.

The recommendations that I would make for individual’s preparing to enter the field of Health Administration Services is education. Although you can advance up the ladder at the Department of Veteran Affairs without a degree, in order to achieve the level of Chief, you must complete your Bachelors in Health Administration or Management at the very least. I would also align myself with a mentor from management to help guide and give direction on what needs to be done in order to achieve success. I would also recommend being flexible in all that you’re trying to achieve; this may include relocating to achieve this goal.

I have chosen the Veterans Health Administration which is home to the United States’ largest integrated health care system.

The organization I conducted my interviews at is the Health Administration Service. The occupation I have chosen is the Chief of Health Administration Service (HAS). The Chief, HAS, oversees all HAS programs to include Health Benefits & Administration, Health Information Management (HIM) and administrative functions at six Community Based Outpatient Clinics (USA Jobs, 2014). Your e-structure has also embedded comments [in bold and in brackets] throughout your essay. Thank you for choosing Smattering’s OWL; best wishes with revising your paper! *Strengths of the essay: HI, Michelle. Welcome!

I’m Alicia H, and I’ll be your e-structure today. Thank you for submitting your paper for review. I enjoyed reading your work! In this draft, you demonstrate your ability to clearly introduce a paragraph’s main point at the start of a body paragraph (in a clear topic sentence): “Email communication is large part of management’s day to day process. ” Here, for instance, work. This can make a paper clearer/more organized. Main Idea/Thesis: The thesis, often the last sentence of the introduction (first paragraph), should clearly “tell” the reader the scope of your paper (what you will cover), Michelle.

It assures the reader that your paper has a clear focus/point. What is the main point (or points) you wish to make in this paper? How would you summarize it (or them) in one clear sentence? That, then, could be your thesis. If you do not include a thesis, the reader may wonder, “What is this paper’s point? Does it have a point? ” Based on the information you provided, your thesis should clearly present your main point (or points) about communication skills in this profession. I also am including (below) a link to our handbooks chapter on thesis development.

You can find more information there if you wish. *Michelle 6766351 has requested that you respond to the Content Development: Next, as you proceed through your presentation of your findings, Michelle, don’t forget to include your own analysis of each topic you cover. For instance, you write this: “The consensus during the interview with all three individuals is that they spend at least a quarter of their time communicating via telephone. ” Why is this fact interesting and/or important? What does it “tell us” or “show us”?

As you explain that, you are including your analysis, thereby helping the reader understand why this information is important. Often, even a single sentence of analysis can make your point(s) much clearer. This is Just an example, though. I encourage you to review your entire draft, adding analysis where it is missing. *Michelle 6766351 has requested that you respond to the Use of Resources: Finally, when you include research in a paper and you want to use words from a source, Michelle, you must put the source’s words in quotation marks to avoid plagiarism.

The quotation marks tell the reader, “These aren’t my words. ” If you use a source’s words and don’t quote, the reader can’t tell which words are yours and which come from the source. In addition, the reader might think you’re trying to “pass off’ someone else’s writing as your own. It’s important to note, too, that you can’t merely change or rearrange a few words and then not quote. You still need to surround the source’s words with quotation marks. For example, this kind of sentence might look something like this: Critic X called Author Yes work “haunting and brilliant” (citation).

For example, are you using the source’s words here? The Chief, HAS, oversees all HAS programs to include Health Benefits & Administration, Health Information Management (HIM) and administrative functions at six Community Based Outpatient Clinics (USA Jobs, 2014). If yes, do not forget to quote. Again, this is Just an example; I encourage you to check your entire paper. I’m also including links (below) to our handbooks chapters on documentation.
