But before we can go call on our esteemed guests to take over the event, Nathan and I would like to give a briefing about the event, the topic in discussion and also formally present the speakers. Nathan: The Podia Business Summit, an endeavor of students of Podia International College, aims to create a arum wherein the business students from colleges across Iambi- the country’s future leaders, educators and industry personnel gather together on a common platform to collaborate, exchange views and identify action to prepare students for the 21st century business solutions and build greater prosperity for India tomorrow.
The Summit’s theme “The falling economy of India” offers a challenge and call to commitment for each of us present here today to engage in purposeful conversations with all of our peers and partners in education and industry. This synergy, we believe ill provide an opportunity to share and promote issues that concern us globally but yet have its local presence. Canaan: Not so long ago our country, India was celebrated as an economic miracle. It had seemed tantalizingly close to embarking on the same dash for economic growth that has lifted hundreds of millions of people out of poverty in China and across East Asia.
In 2008 Mammon Sings, the prime minister, said growth of 8-9% was Indian’s new cruising speed. He even predicted the end of the “chronic poverty, ignorance and disease, which has been the fate of millions of our countrymen for centuries”. Today he admits the outlook is difficult. Our economy now stands in disarray, with the prospect of worse to come in the next few months. The rupee has tumbled by 13% in three months. The stockbroker is down by a quarter in dollar terms.
Borrowing rates are at levels last seen after Lehman Brothers’ meals. Bank snares nave sunk. Antenna: Policymakers recognize Tanat ten country Is in its tightest spot since the balance-of-payments crisis of 1991. The real estate market is teetering after soaring to vertiginous heights over the last few years. Cranes on Mamba’s skyline perch nearly immobilizers as developers struggle for ash. The things the emerging middle class coveted, Chevrolet, phones and foreign vacations, have all Jumped sharply in price in recent weeks.
The price increases threaten to worsen consumer price inflation ? already among the highest in Asia at an annual rate of almost 10 percent ? and widen the country’s already large international trade deficit and government budget deficit. Canaan: So… As the future global leaders, this must be of utmost concern to us or should it not? What if we were hit by such a crisis. How exactly would we be affected? What should we have to do? And how would we tackle it? Are there any hidden opportunities to use to our benefit?
Our excellent guests today are here today to elucidate Just the same. Nathan: It is often said that Experience is the best teacher. With this quote I’d like to introduce our esteemed and experienced guest speaker, Mr. Menswear the Vice President and Head of Platform Analytics with Cumberland Global Services who holds a Masters degree in Economics, a Research degree in Future Studies and an EDP in International Finance.
