The purpose of the article is to describe how Sustainable Development Goals (Eggs) enable to integrate the three pillars of sustainable development; economic, environmental and social goals. The article also addresses the Importance of Integrated governance at local, national and global levels as well as the strength and weakness of the Millennium Development Goals (Megs). As the article mentions, I also consider that effective governance at all levels Is necessary to achieve sustainable development.
However, what Cash disregards In his article Is horizontal Integration of government. Horizontally Integrated government Is the cooperated governance among different departments and divisions of the government (United Nations Development Program 2005). Although the integrated governance at local to global levels could enhance effective policies and regulations, monitoring and measuring the effect of those policies require organization coordination across institutions at the same level.
For instance, information in relate to Australian environment is barely useful and accurate due to the lack of horizontal integration between departments and private scientific agencies. Since coherent set of data could tell which economic policies promote environmental protection as well as social Justice (Australian Bureau of Statistics 2010).
