Centre provides service to children from birth to twelve who are experiencing or are at risk of developing social, emotional or behavioral problems. The Centre is committed to promoting and strengthening the emotional and social well-being of children and their families, through a variety of prevention, intervention and treatment services. Families are an important part of the treatment and decision making process. They strive to make services accessible and culturally sensitive.
History Sailing Discoveries Child and Family Centre was created on June 30, 1998 with the lolling of Discoveries Child and Family Centre and Sailing Centre for Children and Families. The joining of these two agencies brought together a rich history of dedicated service to children and families. The word “sailing” means vision or dream in Irish Gaelic. The name was chosen because of the meaning of the word “sailing” and now we define it as hope of a brighter future for the children who receive their help. About Their Services: They offer services for children from birth to 12 years of age who have social, emotional or behavioral problems. They are committed to promoting the optimal growth of children and their families in an atmosphere of warmth, trust and respect. They strive to provide the kind of support that’s right for child and family, based on rents research in what works best. Most of their programs are offered to families living is the communities of Scarborough and East York.
Some of our programs are offered across the City of Toronto. All services are offered free of charge. They offer ideas on child management and parenting; help for child to function more successfully at school or at child care; support and reassurance; help for children to feel better about themselves; specialized groups for children and parents on topics such as separation and divorce, anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder; individual and family counseling; Information and resource materials.
