New Vision and Mission Statements

ME has suffered some trouble spots due to the expansion of its company. The operations segment has been hit the worst; therefore it is important to come up with a new vision and mission statement to guide ME under their current and projected environments. The vision statement projects the idea of what ME, as a company, aims to achieve, whether it be over the next two, five or even ten years that they are in business. While the mission statement spells out the vision and values, it expands on how they intend to accomplish that vision by setting guidelines for the company to follow. Finally, it will be important to wrap it up by evaluating the operational objectives for the company and develop a plan for implementation.

Mission Statement “Writing an effective, engaging, and clearly defined mission statement is the best way to announce your company’s goals to customers, clients, investors, and even employees” (AllBusiness, 1999-2009, p. 1). The mission statement will help the customers, employees, investors, and clients understand the goals of the company, as well as have a better understanding of why they are in business and where they intend to go as a company. ME’s main focus is providing an optimal product with exceptional service; therefore the mission statement should focus on these key aspects and should be short and to the point.

Our mission is to constantly strive to offer the highest quality products and services to our customers at the lowest possible prices. To ensure we are meeting or exceeding the needs and expectations of selection, service and price. Finally, we will execute periodic appraisals of the market to remain a competitive contender. Vision Statement “A vision statement is a vivid idealized description of a desired outcome that inspires, energizes and helps you create a mental picture of your target” (Constandse, 2004-2008, para. 1).

A vision statement is not necessarily a goal to measure your company against, rather is a target to look at in an effort to envision where the company is going. In this way, it gives the employee something to spark creativity and build passion for the possibilities in the future of ME, while giving the customer a good feeling about the company in which they are conducting business. The customer and the employee both need to have an assurance that the product or company they are dealing with is sound and worth the investment. Therefore, I have come up with a new vision statement for ME.

In the next year, we aim to develop our current process of service into a setting that: encourages and fosters excellence in service, puts together and maintains a customer-centered way of life, provides service that gives the customer a reason to smile, recognizes that excellence in service has to start with the perception of service superiority from top level management all the way to the bottom, realizes that systems and people within the company must be continually focused on customer requirements and to management’s developing perception of service excellence, understand that the operation and structure of the company must be founded on the idea of excellence in service, and to be a leader in knowledge, training, production, and service globally.

Operational Objective The operational objective is an immediate goal whose achievement stirs a company towards accomplishing its planned or long-term objectives. Operational objectives take into account the customer response, internal efficiency, and asset utilization. Within these categories, the customer response is based on quality, order fulfillment, and cycle times for their orders. Internal efficiency examines the supply chain costs and labor productivity.

Finally, asset utilization looks at how the facility is used, inventory turnover and cash cycles. These fit together to help us build the operational objective and implement it into ME’s plan. According to Bogue, “the S.M.A.R.T. goals method–setting objectives that are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-based” is a good method to assist ME in choosing strategies for the company to focus on for improvement (Bogue, April 25, 2005, para. 1). For ME, it is important to focus on customer service and keeping a staff that understands what quality customer service entails, so that they may meet or exceed the standards that ME maintains.

Two objectives have come out of the mission and vision statements. The first objective will be to constantly meet or exceed the expectations of our customers in service and delivery. In customer service, there are areas where ME can define goals and implement them. We can constantly get better in the area of cycle-times within the delivery of customer service through communicating better within the various levels throughout ME and simplifying our processes by identifying critical tasks. A customer relationship representation can be developed and implemented to efficiently manage the activities that surround the services that ME provides.

Additionally, ME can identify and apply accountability measures and the best practices in an effort to easily identify the areas that need to be monitored and managed in order to access conformity. The second objective is to develop and apply a complete plan to draw in and keep excellent personnel. It will be necessary to ensure that we have skilled customer service representatives that meet or exceed the business demand to make ME a great place of employment with the right caliber of employees, and at the same time, better equipped to meet the goals of the company. Identifying key roles will be necessary so that a training program can be implemented for optimal results.

Although ME has suffered some trouble spots due to the expansion of its company, there are ways that we can improve and make a better, sound company. To counterbalance this upset within ME, we have developed a new vision and mission statement, as well as a couple operational objectives to guide ME on its new and improved journey toward success in the business world. This will by no means be a permanent fix, as it will be necessary to reevaluate these steps periodically to ensure we are still on the right track as a company, and as with any plan there will be adjustments to be made.
